Refer to Sandpiper Massage
If you are a doctor, surgeon, physical therapist, psychologist or other health care professional I would love to work with you in supporting the health of your patients.
Ideal Client
I have found that my approach to massage therapy aligns well with the types of people I describe below.
People experiencing anxiety or burnout needing attuned care in a quiet and safe space to practice regulating their nervous systems.
People looking to deepen their connection with their body, or ready to restore connection and safety within their bodies.
People recovering from breast cancer treatments experiencing soft tissue issues and minor lymphedema, and seeking to re-integrate their changed bodies into their sense of self.
Massage Skills
Here are the massage and manual therapy skills I use in my practice:
myofascial technique - my primary massage modality: I gently engage the soft tissue with a grippy emollient, pull and hold in different directions, then slowly release
Swedish massage - foundational gliding and kneading massage techniques like petrissage
range of motion - active and passive movement of joints, especially neck, shoulder, hip and ankle
low grade joint mobs - specifically grade 1 and 2 joint mobilizations
gentle cervical traction - support and gentle pulling of the cranium
dermo neuro modulation - affecting soft-tissue outcomes by interacting with cutaneous nerves
breast massage - lymphatic facilitation specifically for breast tissue health
Additional Skills
In addition massage and manual therapy skills, I am also experienced with:
building a therapeutic alliance and supporting patient autonomy
understanding complex health histories and chronic pain conditions
resisting pathologizing and re-traumatizing vulnerable clients
Areas of Interest
I have pursued additional training and self-guided learning in these areas of interest:
therapeutic relationship
biopsychosocial factors contributing to persistent pain
trauma-informed care | c-PTSD
hypermobility spectrum disorder | hEDS
neurodivergence
I have listed recent continuing education here.
