FAQs

  • What do I need to do after I book?

Thank you for booking with me — I’m looking forward to working with you.

Shortly after you’ve booked your appointment, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a link to “fill out intake forms”. The intake forms can also be accessed by logging into your online account from the booking page. I review this information as soon as it is available to prepare for your session. If I think I need additional information prior to your session, I will contact you with the phone number you provided.

If you want to review the clinic policies you can find them here. If you would like to receive occasional emails from me, subscribe to my mailing list (below).

    Otherwise, that’s all.

Three days before you appointment, you will get a confirmation email. As well, you will receive a confirmation text on the day of your appointment.

Contact me in whatever way you prefer (call, text, email) if you have concerns or questions.

  • What do I need to know the day of my appointment?

If you haven’t already completed your intake forms, please take some time to do this before you arrive. Don’t forget that my policy requires you to cancel if you are sick.

You do not need to arrive early for your appointment. Being on time will ensure you receive your full treatment time. If you’re running late please let me know. Assuming you are here on time, plan on being here for 1 hour 15 minutes.

Wear something comfortable. This is especially important if you are going to stay dressed for your massage. Bring a bottle of water or fill yours at the water fountain on the second floor. Use the restroom.

A clean body is appreciated. Clean feet (if you’ve been out all day in open-toed shoes or flip flops) are appreciated. Avoid wearing heavily scented products, lotions, sunscreen and makeup when possible.

Remove your earrings, necklaces, bracelets and/or watch if it could get in the way. Set your phone to silent unless you are expecting an important call.

  • What do I need to know about your location?

The address is 144 Railroad Avenue. It’s a sage green three-story building with two entrances: one on the side of the building that faces the water, and the other in the covered parking area.

If you’re traveling west on Dayton Street from downtown, it’s an immediate right after the railroad tracks, and immediate left after the Edmonds Waterfront Center (old senior center). It’s easy to miss the entrance the first time you’re here. You may park in one of the ten free 90 minute parking spaces located on the water side of the building or any available city parking space you find.

Once inside, take the elevator or stairs to the second floor and find suite 205, which is near the restrooms. The door will be closed, but you can let yourself in. You’ll enter the shared waiting room.

My treatment room is in a suite that I share with three other providers. You may occasionally hear some conversation from the hall or adjacent suites during your session. Sometimes we’ll hear the ferry or a passing train.

More info on my location can be found here.

  • What will my massage therapy session be like?

The length of your appointment is the duration of your massage plus 15 minutes. Your session will begin with a review of your health history, and a conversation about what you are experiencing and what you want to get out of the session. We will plan the session together. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and express concerns.

Once intake is complete, I will instruct you to either lay face-up, face-down or on your side and leave the room for a few minutes to wash my hands and let you get on the table privately. You can remain dressed, in which case you will lay over the sheet, or you can undress or partially undress, in which case you will cover yourself with the top sheet. The door is always locked from the outside. I will knock before re-entering.

I may work through the sheet, or uncover the area and work on the surface of your body. You will be covered by the top sheet except for the area of the body we are working on. This means that under the sheet you can be undressed as much as you’re comfortable with.

During the session I will be quiet, although I may ask about how something feels, or offer you choices (“Would you like more time on an area?”, for example). It’s very helpful if you tell me if something doesn’t feel good, so I can change what I’m doing or move on.

At the end of the session I will leave the room so you can get dressed. Once you are dressed I will re-enter, answer any questions you have, and collect payment. You do not need to leave a tip. If it is your first visit, I will check-in by text the next day.

  • But what if I ... ?

Any number of client worries belong here. These are a few common concerns:

What if I don’t like what you’re doing: It’s okay. Letting me know gives me a chance to change what I’m doing to something that you might like better. You can also ask me to stop completely. If you’re having a hard time speaking up you can wave a hand or lift your head and look at me.

Body hair: It’s okay. You don’t need to shave before your massage, and we’ll use a little more lotion if we have to.

Crying: It’s okay. Emotions like sadness can come up during a session, and if they do, we will pause the session, check in, and decide how to proceed together.

Flatulence: It’s okay. If you let a little toot escape or accidentally let one rip, we’ll make light of it and move on.

Involuntary arousal: It depends. A person may become aroused during a massage without being attracted to or having any sexual feelings towards the massage therapist simply because they feel relaxed, and that’s okay. Knowing this, your massage therapist will politely ignore, and continue to work. If, however, you choose to bring attention to your arousal or behave in a way that makes your massage therapist uncomfortable, it’s not okay and you’ll be asked to leave and be billed for the session.

End the session: To end the session at any time, for any reason, just say something like “That’s all for today.” and I will stop and leave the room.

  • How will I feel after my session?

How you feel after your session depends on your state and the specific treatment you received that day. Please let me know if you have any expectations about how you want to feel after your session during the conversation you have with me prior to your session.

If you experience the onset or worsening of symptoms within the 24 hours following your massage and would like to discuss what you are experiencing please contact me.

I will text you from my business phone the day after your first appointment to check in and see how you are feeling.

  • What safety and sanitation precautions are you taking?

I adhere to guidelines for health care providers/settings and those specifically for licensed massage therapist (WAC). Additional precautions include not allowing anyone showing signs of illness into the treatment room, and allowing a minimum of 30 minutes between clients so there is enough time to let disinfected surfaces dry, and allow for air exchange.

I’m fully-vaccinated/boosted for COVID and will be wearing a disposable surgical or N95 mask during your treatment.

  • Do you accept insurance?

I do not bill insurance, however, you may be able to submit your receipt for reimbursement as out-of-network provider. Please check with your health insurance what information needs to be on the receipt prior to your appointment. You may need a diagnosis code, which I cannot provide (but a doctor, chiropractor or physical therapist can).

  • Is there anything else I need to know?

Yes. I want Sandpiper Massage to be a welcoming and therapeutic space.

There are no circumstances in which harassment will be tolerated. The session can be ended by either the client or the therapist if either feels uncomfortable or unsafe for any reason.

  • Ask me a question.

Do you have a question or concern that wasn’t addressed here? Please contact me in whichever way you prefer (contact information below). I do my best to respond to any inquiries within 1-3 days.
